Watercolour Brights Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake Project Brief
Moving away from the traditional white cake, our couple wanted a bright cake to go with their summer theme wedding. Unsure how to create this idea without it being too colourful, we suggested a watercolour effect on a white cake, enhanced with the addition of several bright flowers attached on the top and middle tiers. The overall look of the cake is colourful and fun, however the style is still quite traditional and pretty for a wedding, without being overwhelming. We love the watercolour effect on this cake which has been very popular this year!
How We Made The Wedding Cake
We started with a simple white three tier cake for this design. Once baked and stacked, we allow the sugarpaste to harden up before we paint the cake so we have a nice surface to work on. Using several bright colours, we lightly paint them on the cake and blend them into each other in random areas. Where needed, we build up layers and colour until we are happy with the look. All our sugar flowers are created ahead of time allowing them to set before they are added to the cake. Using colours and flower designs from the bride's boquet, we wire our flower petals and arrange them together in a single flower, which is then added to the cake to form a spray. Finally a bright pink ribbon is added to the cake for a lovely pop of colour!
