Succulent Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake Project Brief
Sometimes it is nice for us when the Bride and Groom don't know exactly what they want, it means we can get a little more inventive and come up with something that little bit different. When our couple came in to see us they were very clear they did not want a traditional three tier wedding cake, Instead they wanted a two tier cake with cupcakes.
After asking what the Bride was having in her bouquet we found out that succulents were prevalent not only in her bouquet but also as favours for each guest, with this in mind we thought that they would make an interesting centre piece for the wedding cake.
How We Made The Wedding Cake
This was our first ever succulent wedding cake and we were unsure of how many petals we needed to make a full bloom, so after much tweaking we finally set about cutting and moulding the right amount of petals required. Once these had dried we set about dusting each individual petal, we used several different shades in order to create a more life like colour palette.
As our couple were having succulents as their favours we thought it would be nice to recreate the plant pots that their guests would be receiving. We made these from sugar, and once they had dried and been dusted we then set about putting the succulents together, with edible "soil" on the top to finish them off. We also made individual succulents to go on cupcakes, surrounded again with edible "soil". The cake was then finished with fresh flowers and a sprinkle of edible "soil" around the pot plants.
Wedding Cake Ingredients
The Bride and Groom decided on a white chocolate and raspberry cake filled with a white chocolate ganache as their two tier wedding cake. For the cupcakes they decided on a rich chocolate sponge cake topped with a milk chocolate ganache.
