Black and Gold Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake Project Brief
To match a black tie event, our couple wanted a black cake! Black cakes are one of the newest trends in cake design and take some skill to keep them looking pretty and bridal. Our design was born taking inspiration from the couples colour scheme and event details for inspiration. We stuck to classic tier shapes for this cake, with the addition of one gold jewel tier to give it a more modern look. White cascading flowers were added to match in with the florals chosen for the day and gave a lovely light contrast against the dark backdrop of the cake. We love the striking simplicity of this cake.
How We Made The Wedding Cake
Most of the work on this cake was centered around the flower spray and the jewel tier. All our flowers are handmade and each flower can take over two hours to create. We made lovely white roses and poppies for the spray as well as some stunning white filler flowers, to give the spray a realistic look. For the jewel tier, we cut out different flower shapes and cast jewels in moulds and let them to set, before scattering them over the tier to add dimension, filling in gaps with intricate piping work. This tier was then dusted and sprayed to give it a metallic sheen which is also completely edible! Once the cake was covered and stacked, the flower spray was then added into place to complete the look.
