Sunshine Birthday Cake

Cake Project Brief

We were asked to create a lovely sunshine cake for a second birthday as the customers wanted it to look fun and bright. The idea was to include a yellow sun and touches of pink. We came up with this design with the customer, who loved its sunny look!

How We Made The Cake

Our sunshine model was made in advance by shaping a fondant dome and attaching petal shapes to the outside. This was a large topper, over 5 inches in diameter by the time he was finished. We think he topped the cake off perfectly!!! While he was drying we handcrafted over 40 individual flowers, a large sugar bow and letter plaques and also set them aside to dry. Our cakes were baked, covered and stacked and all the decorations added to complete the overall design.

Cake Ingredients

We used two flavours for this cake as it has two individual layers. We used our vanilla sponge cake recipe with jam and fluffy buttercream. For the other cake we baked a lemon drizzle cake with tangy lemon curd and buttercream filling.
