After you have mastered the basics of cake covering, it is now time to perfect your skills and learn how to stack your cakes in our Tiered Cakes and Stacking Course. Learning how to stack a cake will enhance your skills allowing you to create a wide variety of designs for birthdays and other special occasions. Correct stacking technique, is crucial to ensure the stability of the finished product and is the foundation to making a perfect wedding cake.

During this class you will learn:

In this course we will teach you how to cover, dowell, stack and lightly decorate the two most common size tiers for a birthday which are also used for the standard wedding cake sizes. You will practically apply you knowledge on real cake to refresh your cake covering skills and experience how real cake behaves. We do not use dummy cakes in your class to ensure you are learning all the skills you need for the future.

 Basics of crumb coating, covering, dowelling and stacking

  • Tools and equipment needed to perfect your cake
  • Practicing on real cake to learn correct techniques, common issues and how to fix errors
  • Basic piping decoration
  • How to create a sugar bow
  • Discussion about cake dummies
  • Discussion about how to apply knowledge to wedding cakes
  • Covering a cake on a cake card to be stacked
  • Covering the board and finishing touches

Hint! When you have stacked and decorated your cake with us, you can go home and make it into a bigger cake by stacking it on top of a larger tier!


  • We politely request that people DO NOT bring their own tools so we avoid any confusion.
  • You may wish to bring your own carry container. Please note, it will need to be tall.


  • All agreements are made between “you” and Sweet Serenity Cakes.
  • All bookings are subject to availability. Sweet Serenity reserves the right to withdraw a product or package at any given time. In this case any outstanding bookings will be given the choice of an alternative product of equal or higher value or a full refund.
  • Your time and date is pre-booked. As the kitchen is reserved for a specific time, late arrival will result in a reduced class time.
  • If you fail to show up for your class without letting us know no refund or rescheduling will be applicable.
  • Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements on group courses.
