Vintage Birdcage Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake Project Brief
Vintage designs were popular choices for wedding cakes last year and we are seeing the trend continue. Our bride was decorating her venue with large roses and birdcages as their centerpieces and so she knew that she wanted her cake to have a birdcage theme. We designed this stunning cake with a painted water colour effect and edible lace. The overall look of the cake is vintage in its details, yet still modern. We used extended tiers and set the birdcage on a stand to move away from the traditional stacked cake.
How We Made The Wedding Cake
Before our cakes are made, we will work on the details which can be made beforehand. All our roses and leaves are made by attaching individual petals to a wire and bringing them together to make a complete flower or leaf spray. We will also model our gorgeous love birds and set them to dry. We will bake our cakes in the shop once the decorations are created to ensure that the cakes are as fresh as possible for delivery. Once cooled, they are filled and coated in sugarpaste. We then add any effects to the cake such as building the birdcage, the water colour painted effect and the cake lace. Finally we assemble the cake into position and add our flowers in a nice arrangement to suit.
Wedding Cake Ingredients
Our lemon and raspberry is a lemon and raspberry sponge with lemon buttercream. Our white chocolate and raspberry is a vanilla sponge with raspberries filled with soft white chocolate ganache. The final sponge option is our traditional vanilla recipe with a passionfruit filling.
