Gold Sequin Wedding Cake
Wedding Cake Project Brief
One of my favourite cakes of the year, and because of this we have made quite a few cakes using elements of this design. Generally when a Bride asks us if we can cover a cake in gold sequins we are a little...surprised, however, once we were shown a picture of the finished article we could completely see why they had picked the design. Our Bride and Groom wanted a “wow” factor and something which would look elegant with their pink and gold theme, I think we achieved this for them.
How We Made The Wedding Cake
All of the sequins are cut out by hand, and then they are painstakingly stuck on to the cake one sequin at a time, this allows the cake to have the correct texture when completed. Once everything was stuck in place we painted all of the sequins gold. The sugar flowers were made in advance, with gold glitter stamens in the centers to offset the gold of the sequins.
Wedding Cake Ingredients
The double height top tier of the cake was made from a decadent chocolate fudge cake filled and coated with a rich chocolate ganache.
We decided to use a fake cake as the base tier purely due to the size needed to fit with the design the Bride and Groom asked us for, also realistically a cake of this size would not cover well with sugarpaste.
For the second tier we made a light vanilla sponge filled with fresh raspberries and a white chocolate ganache.
